9.8.1892 Geboren in Würzburg, Unterfranken (DE)

1886 - 1911 His father commits suicide.
The family moves to Munich after his mother's remarriage to Doctor Lichtenstein.
Secondary studies as a boarder at the Wasserburm am Inn Institute.
He begins to paint at the age of 16.
Against the wishes of his parents, he puts a halt to his studies and goes to work at a travel agency in Munich.
He becomes a regular at the café Stéphanie, where he finds the excitement of life in the bohemian avant-garde.
He begins to try to live on his work as a painter and writer

1892 Hans Reichel is born on August 9th at Wurtzburg, in Bavaria. His mother is an accomplished musician

1911 He leaves to spend several weeks in Egypt working as a tour guide

1914 As war breaks out, he refuses to be drafted into service. He is kept at a special hospital, assigned to public services within the city, and then discharged as unfit.
He marries, at which moment his parents cut off their financial support completely

1917 He establishes a Munich studio in the small manor of Werneckschlôssl.
He meets Rainer Maria Rilke and Ringelnatz.
Short period of enrollment at the Modern Art School of Hans Hofmann.
He meets Paul Klee, who moves his own studio to the first floor of the Werneckschlôssl.
He has his first exhibition, at the Tannhâuser Gallery in Munich

1924 He visits the Bauhaus in Weimar. He meets Kandinsky, Gropius, Feininger

1925 - 1928 Voyages to Ticino, in Italy, to Algeria and to Paris

1928 Leaves his family behind so that he can move to Paris, where he will live at the Hôtel des Terrasses for 12 years.
He meets Brassaï, Van Velde and Bissière.
He participates in the exhibition "Abstrakte" in Munich and has his first exhibition in Paris.
He meets Jeanne Bucher, who will henceforth assume responsibility for his representation

1930/1932/1936
Exhibitions at the Académie Ranson, organized by Bissière
1935 Travels in Spain.
He meets Henry Miller and Lawrence Durrell.
He meets Adolf Herbst

1939 - 1943 Interned as a German national in the camps at Gurs

1942 He paints "Le Cahier de Gurs (The Gurs Notebook)", a portfolio with 12 folders containing 42 watercolors executed during his internment at the Gurs camp from 1941-1942

1943 Supervised leave at Cazaubon, in the Gers

1944 He escapes and goes into hiding at a farm named "Le Bégué"

1945 He returns to the camp at Meudon, where he meets his future partner, Lucie Schimeck

1946 Exhibitions at the Galerie Jeanne-Bucher, Paris, and at the Marian Willard Gallery in New York

1948 Becomes a naturalized French citizen

1950 He exhibits his watercolors in the company of works by Vieira da Silva, at the Hune, in Paris

1952 Laureate of the Jongkind Prize, awarded by the Arches paper company as decided by a jury of art critics
