Armando Mariño
Stament
During four years the whole conceptual background of my work becomes marked by the analysis, criticize and ironic of the friction among what is known in the postmodern academic literature as The Other One and the hegemony pattern of the Western culture.
Through the Other One, emphasized in the figure of a black man with savage's look, this position of privileged of the Western culture is subjected to exam.
By means of a cannibal use of images styles, techniques, references and material inheritance to my mestizo condition has tried to make visible the stereotypes and erroneous concepts that underlie in certain stories and cultural speeches that West orchestrates and in its relationship with that excluded, the outlying thing, the Others.
The intertextual or, more precisely, metapictorical strategies involve my work in a revision of the Canon, adopting a stance of misreading what has become classic modernity.
Its is clear that this aestehetic contains a deliberate hybridisation, which moreover involves removing the logic of ethnographical representation, while the disoriented volition intervenes as a reaction to the Great Canon of the museum world, incapable of assuming but the Same Thing.
The inherent mechanisms of power to the representation systems in the art, their way to perpetuate archetypes and their dominance tactics and exclusion in the History of Art have been the first objective and the last in my work.
However this primary sense has been overflowed by new restlessness and concepts product of the internal development of the own work and the discursive inadequacy of the material that up to now had used, this together to new fields of personal investigations has taken me to expand the field tropological and material of my works.
I working now in more comprehensive questions of the History in general, the international conflicts, the intolerance, and the opposition to all those domestication mechanisms and repression like, speeches, institutions and authorities that block the flows of the difference.
