Biography:
Somers Point, NJ (US)
Identical twin brothers, the Starns are graduates of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where they each won a competitive scholarship, the first of many distinguished awards. They have applied their exploration of the physicality and viability of photographic material to numerous seascapes, drawn by the spiritual symbolism and vast scale of their subject. Since the 1987 Whitney Biennial, they have created various major installations, most recently for a 1998 show at Leo Castelli that marks an ten-year association with the gallery.
