Biography: 
9.8.1892 Born in Würzburg, Unterfranken (DE)
1886 - 1911 His father commits suicide.
The family moves to Munich after his mother's remarriage to Doctor Lichtenstein.
Secondary studies as a boarder at the Wasserburm am Inn Institute.
He begins to paint at the age of 16.
Against the wishes of his parents, he puts a halt to his studies and goes to work at a travel agency in Munich.
He becomes a regular at the café Stéphanie, where he finds the excitement of life in the bohemian avant-garde.
He begins to try to live on his work as a painter and writer
1925 - 1928 Voyages to Ticino, in Italy, to Algeria and to Paris
1939 - 1943 Interned as a German national in the camps at Gurs
7.12.1958 Died in Paris (FR)
