 Biography:  Please report missing Information

2.12.1882 Born in Nieuwer Amstel, NH (NL)

Jan Boon was briefly a student at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague and was later a pupil of, among others, Zilcken and J.H. Maris. In 1906 and 1907 he received a grant from Queen Wilhelmina. In the 1920’s Boon spent a number of years in Austria and Belgium and acquired an intimate knowledge of German «Neue Sachlichkeit» and Japanese wood block prints, which was to lay the basis for his small, but very attractive, oeuvre. Both movements are characterised by closed lines and contours, which are always a pronounced feature of Boon’s work. He excelled in portrait drawings of figures from the world of science and politics and also in oil paintings of delicate still lifes.

1975 Died in Den Haag, ZH (NL)
