João Onofre was born in Lisbon (1976) where he lives and works. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and concluded his MA in Fine Arts at Goldsmiths College in London.
He has exhibited his work individually in several galleries and museums, most recently of which: galeria Toni Tàpies, Barcelona (Spain, 2005); Roma, Roma, Roma gallery, Rome, (Italy, 2005); Magazine 4, Bregenz (Austria, 2004); Making of, Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art, Lisbon (Portugal, 2004); Nothing will go wrong, Centro Galego de Arte Contemporanea, Santiago de Compostela (Spain, 2003) and Museu do Chiado - Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea, Lisbon (Portugal, 2003). All of the aforementioned exhibitions, with the exception of Making of, Roma, Roma, Roma, and Toni Tàpies were accompanied by full-colour catalogues. He has partaken in the following group exhibitions this year: Terminal, Hangar K7, Fundição de Oeiras, Oeiras (Portugal); Desvelar lo Invisible, Sala Alcalá, Comunidade de Madrid, Madrid (Spain); Portugal, Algumas Figuras, Alameda Art Laboratory (LAA), Mexico City (Mexico); Magic, Vamiali's, Athens (Greece); Jugend von heute, Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt (Germany).
