Biography: 
1949 Born in New York NY (US)
Born in New York, USA, in 1949, Laurie Simmons studied at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Her work was first introduced at the P.S.I. Gallery and the Artists' Space in New York City. Defined as "constructed photos," Simmons images, which use objects and dolls, were acclaimed in the 1980s alongside artists such as Sandy Skoglund. Laurie Simmons has exhibited at San Paulo Biennale in 1985, and at Biennale of Sydney in 1986. In Japan, Simmons' work appeared as part of the exhibition "Images in Transition" organized by the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, in 1990.
