Biography:
1972 Born in Havre (FR)
Pauline Fondevila's work is based on the work of the others. The others are contemporary artists, filmakers, writers, art critics, musicians and comic strip artists. Her work rests on quotations, remakes and appropriations of others works. From this exogenic elements, Pauline builds a world, which takes the forms and dimensions of the daydream or the divagation. Her drawings, on a traditional format paper, evoke a very oneiric universe, even hallucinatory. Work of choice, therefore, of compilation then of mixing, assembly and arrangement, which rests on the same operations as a musical sample. Finally, all is recognizable and yet all is disfigured, transformed, reorientated. We recognize glares, some bits of works, but those were redrawn, colorized, so that they are there and at the same time they are not there. Bruno Peinado's Bibendum is found for example multi-coloured, any smile, perched on the Base of the world of Piero Manzoni; Bertrand Lavier's Giulietta reverses a Stephen Wilks's ass; Pierre Joseph's Superman reflects, posed on a Leccia Angel's luminous sphere.
Pauline Fondevila plays without shame with works of the others, without fearing "to betray them", without inevitably respecting the significances or the intentions of them, flattening volumes, erasing the effects of matter to the profit of the drawing or the watercolour.
Appropriation, rewriting, comparison wild, not - authorized. Copyleft radical attitude. Works of the others are there, with provision, as well as the cultural or media signs in which we bathe and of which we are useful ourselves daily without same being aware of it. Pauline Fondevila gives to these works a quality of everyday life: no sacralization in her work. It is as many forms, of colors, fittings and information of which it to seize to build her world; and to leave elsewhere.
