The works of the Dresden artist Ricarda Roggan, born 1972, display thoroughly both acquired documentary and constructional working methods that surpass installational arrangements and photographic painterliness as a matter of course.
In contrast to other artists of her generation who work with the medium of photography and, since the fall of the GDR and the loss of history, often employ in picturesque documentary manner crumbling houses and empty factory buildings after image, the usual strategy of Roggan follows paths far more cool and conceptual.
She gathers and fixes objects and traces (mostly still accessible furniture) and presents them in the same empty space with red industrial floors as a last ground for time lost. In this highly reductive manner things unfold, taking out of their original surroundings, as she fully opens out their eventual form.
