Rui Toscano CV as pdf-File
Rui Toscano lives and works in Lisbon. After studying painting at the Ar.Co school of visual art, he moved on to studying painting at the Lisbon School of Fine Art, where he soon switched over to sculpture.
His work is triggered and informed by the everyday, film, rock music, sound and the monochrome which he employs, explores, crosses over and expands in his videos and sculptures. Toscano is also a copious drawer.
Recent solo exhibitions include 'The Exorcist', Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art, Lisbon; 'Sampa Works', Espacio Distrito4, Madrid; 'Slow Motion', Porta 33, Funchal; '1', Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves, Oporto; '2', Teatro do Campo Alegre, Oporto. Amongst his most recent group exhibitions: 'Expanded Painting' Prague Biennale 2, Prague; Desenhos A-Z, Colecção Madeira Corporate Services, Porta 33, Funchal; '20+1', Artistas Portugueses nas Coleccións CGAC, Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela; 'Fragmentos e Souvenirs Paulistanos Vol. I', Galeria Luísa Strina, São Paulo.
Rui Toscano's work is included in the Banco Privado collection, Lisbon, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Lisbon and Fundación ARCO's collection, Madrid.
He is exclusively represented in Lisbon by Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art.
