2000 College degree, department of oil painting, Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing

2003 Master´s degree, department of Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing

He received his masters degree in 2003 from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, with a specialization in oil painting, and since 2003 has been teaching at the Beijing Institute of Art and Design. Shen Liang is one of the most prominent members of the current young generation of oil painters who eschew the fashionable area of photography and video in favor of a rigorous investigation into the possibilities of painting. His work explores the subject of the Peking Opera which, through his modernist pictorial treatment, connects the past to the reality of contemporary China.
