18.2.1940 Born in Bucharest (RO)
1956 - 1958 Polytechnic Institute, Bucharest (RO), Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications
1956 - 1962 Private fine art studies. Very often guided by C. C. Constantinescu and H. H. Catargi
1958 - 1962 I. Ranghetz Institute for Radio and Television, Bucharest (RO)
1969 - 1970 • Traditional painting remains an important part of his interest. Experimenting large scale printmaking and paper sculptures.
• Begins experimenting with mathematically based artworks in an effort to combine the practices of mathematics, electronics and fine art; projects emulating cybernetic interactions, algorithmic operations, algorithmic transformations of forms already obtained or algorithmic operations requesting, on the fly, generative/fine art decisions from the artist in order for the process to get completed.
• Emergence of two directions that remained the focus of his work to date:
the S-Bands and the Meta-Phorms. Essentially these algorithmic works emulate cybernetical models and can be executed either in the spirit of computation or by the use of the computer. The first results are exhibited in Romania and internationally starting 1970.
1971 - 1979 Publishes articles and statements that promote the process of combining art and sciences, especially mathematics and cybernetics
since 1980 Lives and works since 1980 in New York, USA
1981 - 1994 A period of creating and artistically finessing multiple concepts of mathematically based artworks. emulating cybernetic interactions. Meta-Phorms, Meta-Compositions
since 1986 Testing the potential of Apple technologies to meet fine art criteria: Linotronic and Laser Prints, slide output, cybachromes, desktop scanners, mega fine art works using billboard technologies, inkjet printers, papers, canvases and inks, museum quality prints, animation, web and interactive
1995 - 2001 Practicing the conjoint knowledge of mathematics, artistic sense, aesthetic knowledge, philosophy and technological knowhow in order to obtain art works. Exclusive use of the computer technologies in conjunction with the Fine Art Oriented Mathematical Algorithm
since 2008 Symphonic Meta-Compositions
Awards 1973 Meta-Phorm awarded a the 3rd Annual Painting Competition, “The Golden Nightingale”.
1973 The first international presentation the Fine Art Oriented Mathematical Algorithm at the “Creation Artificielle” colloquium, the Sigma 9 Festival, Bordeaux
1994 The Ionel Jianou Award, Davis, CA
Lives and works in 1964 Realises that painting is a stronger call than his technical training. Abandons electronics as a way to make a living and starts painting full time. Becomes one of the main initiators of the \"Group of the Apple Meadow\"-\"Gruparea de la Poiana Marului\", a movement of young Romanian artists-to be committed to paint full time. Paints outdoors in the Carpathian “Apple Meadow” village. Oil painting, watercolors, gouaches, pen and ink and sculpture.
