 Biography:  Shona Davies - Artist Statement Sir John Cass College of Art One of the recurrent themes within Davies´s work is the exploration of rituals that mark significant events within the life's journey, for example birthday and funeral ceremonies. There is a strong narrative element to the pieces as well as a tragi-comic interpretation that is frequently autobiographical. Fitting well with the preoccupation with cycles of birth and death is the choice of found materials, which are adapted to aid the telling or "playing out" of the stories. The use of these found or recycled materials brings an element of chance as to how the pieces have evolved, leading them to develop in an organic or opportunistic way.
