12.3.1923 Born in Sori, Genoa (IT)

Ugo Attardi was among the founders of the manifesto Forma 1. Geometric abstraction and chromatic dissection can both be found in his Sicilian landscapes painted during his frequent travels to the island. At the beginning of the Fifties, he concentrated on figurative realism, always showing a strong, social commitment. Following this period he moved onto different themes, with particular attention to homely scenes placed in urban panoramas, with a saturated use of colour which is typical of the Roman School.
After his experience as a contributor to the magazine Città aperta (1957), erotic and violent scenes, two fundamental themes of his imagery, appeared in his paintings. After 1967 he concentrated on sculpture and narrative, while his painting activity expanded to prints and drawings in which the plasticity of his use of chiaroscuro lived side by side with clear-cut figures.

2006 Died in Roma
