Biography: 
1963 Born in Tangshan, Hebei (CN)
1983 graduated from the Polytechnical University, Hebei
1991 - 1996 lived and workd in the artist village Yuanminyuan, Beijing
Artist introduction
Yang Shaobin moved 1991 from Tangshan into the artist-village Yuangmingyuang near of Beijing, where numerouse contemporary Chinese artists were working. Since 1996 he lives and works in Beijing. His earlier works of the beginning of the 90's are signed through ‚realism', mainly group-pictures of men in uniform or joung men who are fighting, attacing their bodies within an agressive gesture.
In his works since 1998 Yang developed an own painting-style: in largesized figurative works he steps back from a strict realism and tends more to a painting process. More free there are difuse parts and abstracts as well as runny colors and drippings. A serie of merely red-toned portraits arise which were prominently presented on the Venice Biennale 1999.
The Berliner Zeitung wrote about Yang Shaobin:
"At Asian Fine Arts the blood-red morbid sensual shapes of the Chinese Yang Shaobin are attracting. His deap pictorial pathos contradicts impressively the Neo-Pop, which predominates in all Western countries including Japan." (Sebastian Preuss)
