“As the paths of our journeys are now crossing by the exchange of these words that you and I are currently respectively reading and writing, I shall stand up in a few minutes and walk down this street with Adagny whilst being overshadowed by the flight of a Black-Throated Diver to continue this journey towards unknown territories hoping to get caught and swept away by these mysterious forces which amongst a million other things are responsible for the birth of these magnificent flowers Adagny loves so much.” – Extract from SCENE – A Letter from China, Repetition Of and For a Journey, A Poetico-Ethical Journey: the Black-Throated Diver and Adagny the Beautiful little Swedish Girl in White and ...
Platform China Contemporary Art Institute is pleased to present the artist Antoine L'Heureux’s first solo exhibition A Poetico-Ethical Journey at the 798 Project Space.
Through an installation of photographs and a 12 000-word script divided in 6 scenes, L’Heureux constructs an open-ended narrative structure mapping a journey formed by a series of ethically relevant encounters. The journey started two years ago with the encounter of the ornithologist Amelia who researches the Canadian bird named Black-Throated Diver. An expedition to the Great North of Quebec (a Canadian province) was performed to observe the exceptional, “suicidal” behavior of the Black-Throated Diver. The journey continues and takes a significant turn when Adagny, a young Swedish girl living in China, is met during an art exhibition of this project in the UK. Adagny has become the object of a search here in China.
This exhibition will open at 5PM on the 12th of July, and will continue through 27th of July, 2008. The artist is also a PhD research student in Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK. |
