Anna and Bernhard Blume »metaphysics is man's business«
Anna and Bernhard Blume (*1937) are internationally seen among the most eminent representatives of a staged photography, which- incomperable in its way- focuses on human overestimation of one's own capabilities in an ironic and profound manner. Through their black and white, large-sized and often multipartite photo-series, whose headliners they themselves are, the team explores in a self-experiment an also desperate transcendental craving- for the overcoming of limits in space, time, human experience and mental activity. Performance, painting and photography can not be seperated from each other in their large photo- series, where objects and humans defy the laws of gravity. While Anna and Bernhard Blume concentrated on the bourgois-like environment as in the photo- series "Trautes Heim" or "Im Wahnzimmer" for a long time with the photo- series "Im Wald" they go, to some extend, back to the roots of the romantic german mental state, whose reflexes adorn cosy homes until today. Therein traditional topoi of role allocation are mimicked between the genders in the spiritually ascending man and a woman falling backwards towards the earth- metaphysics is just man's work. |
