NEW ACQUISITIONS OF THE AFM COLLECTION
Seventy major works by fifty major artists.
The CCA Kunsthalle is pleased to announce the next exhibition with the latest acquisitions from the ART FOUNDATION MALLORCA COLLECTION (AFM).
This year CCA Kunsthalle is proud to present a display of the acquisitions from 2010 including extraordinary works by the following artists:
Gert & Uwe Tobias, Ulla von Brandenburg, Kendell Geers, Dexter Dalwood, Mark Dion, Elmgreen & Dragset, Erneste Neto, Chiharu Shiota, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Ida Ekblad, S‚adane Afif, Tony Matelli, as well as works by artists previously represented in the collection. To date AFM has collected more than seventy works from all over the World where mainly paintings and photographs dominate, but the collection also includes drawings, sculptures and installation works. On this edition are specially preeminent the work of Ernesto Neto (Rio de Janeiro 1964), "LateNightLady", 2009, one sculpture which fills the room with luminous shapes and forms almost creating architectural structures within them, and the Female Sleepwalker, 2008, by Tony Matelly (Chicago 1971), a realistic figure full of the deepness state of desolation, panic, ambivalence and despair.
The focus of the AFM is cutting-edge contemporary art from all around the world and its collection has been an important factor in the establishment of the CCA Andratx as one of the most challenging art centres in Spain.
AFM is the result of a large number of companies and international art lovers joining forces and creating one of the most striking collections of contemporary art of today, encouraged by Patricia Asbaek.
AFM & CCA Andratx
The aim of CCA Andratx is to create the ideal facilities, allowing the artist staying in the CCA studios developing his or her talent to the limit. New synergies occur when the resident artists inspire each other or use each other as critics, converting the residency to a unique experience. Today some of Europe's leading artists apply for residency at CCA Studios. Clearly the dream of giving artists comfortable living conditions and an open environment has been realised.
Some of the art worlds most respected curators have organised exhibitions in the impressive space of CCA Kunsthalle. CCA Andratx has become an important place to have shows for some of the most interesting contemporary artists.
Through CCA, AFM has an exclusive access to artists that would not be possible through traditional channels. In the search of new art works AFM also visits key places of the art world.
