Seoul Museum of Art holds City_net Asia 2009 from September 30 through November 22, this year marking its fourth display. This biennial contemporary art exhibition is in an attempt to promote cultural exchanges among major Asian cities and to actively introduce their young promising artists to the audience.

This project in collaboration with the Asia's prestigious art museums is designed as a venue to provide visitors a valuable opportunity to collectively establish their thoughts on the identity of Asia and to shed light on Asian contemporary art scenes that reflect particular social and cultural issues of their own countries.

Many exhibitions on contemporary art have recently been held throughout Asia by young artists. These exhibitions not only allow up-and-coming artists to make themselves internationally known, they afford opportunities for non-Asians to delve more deeply into Asian culture. We need to create more such opportunities to introduce outstanding art and artists from Asia to the world.

City_net Asia 2009 will present talented young artists who have emerged in the domestic art society of each participating country. The curators of four art museums in four cities selected the artists to be featured in this exhibition of contemporaneous art and social issues, and the curators and the artists worked together to show the regional characteristics of contemporary art.

The participating museums are the Today Art Museum in Beijing, the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Istanbul Modern and Seoul Museum of Art. Through the works of the young artists, City_net Asia 2009 will highlight the identity of each participating city and its unique contemporary art.
