Euan Macleod, Colossus, 2013 oil on polyester 180 x 137cm
New Zealand born, Australian resident Euan Macleod's latest paintings explore the familiar theme of the figure in the landscape. Inspired by the particularly dramatic and dynamic geography of White Island, the figure strides across steaming plains, erupting craters and is witness to the giant volcanic clouds, creating exciting works reminiscent of Goya's Colossus.
These paintings are not constrained by describing geographical sites, but rather depict Macleod's perceptions, interpretation and constructions of observed landscapes. Macleod brings himself into the view whether he likes it or not.
A fully illustrated catalogue is available for $11 plus postage and handling.
