For the first time we present a solo show of the artist duo EVA & ADELE in Munich. Their work comprises performances, videos, drawings, paintings and objects. It is the artists themselves who hold all this together. Since their exhibition “Metropolis” in the Berlin Martin-Gropius-Bau, they are as “living sculptures” integral part of the international art scene. It followed among others the participation in the Kassel Documenta (1992, 1997 and 2002), as well as in the Venice biennial in 1993 and 2003.
Our show is dedicated to their painting, which mirror their extraordinarily consequent and all embracing lives that does not draw a line between privateness and public, art and non-art, but instead celebrates the blending of the two personalities in their work.
With EVA & ADELE it is not just two individuals who merge but their whole life and work becomes a total work of art in the truest sense of the word. Thus they rightly claim: “Where we are is museum.”
There are probably only very few artists, who – over such a long period – keep on reinventing themselves in such a total and radical manner, and whose life and work are so tightly interwoven.
For the first time we show the small abstract paintings of the new series “Nebelglanz”, with which they brake completely new grounds by rejecting any kind of figuration and mixing drawing and pastose painting in a most tension-filled manner.
Furthermore we show paintings from the “Transformer-Performer”- series, in which different image planes interfere with each other and one has to take one’s time to fathom the different layers, their significance and interplay. The paintings connect the artists’ portraits, fragments of their art (older drawings) or even parts of their performance-costumes. Moreover they are also shaped by spontaneous expressive gestures in the moment of their formation and thus connect history, present and future. Accordingly EVA & ADELE have created a topic for their work, which is “Futuring”- producing future. They claim to come from the future themselves, and we are willing to believe them.
