With the exhibition A Journey Round My Skull Jasper Sebastian Stürup invites us into a universe where odd characters meet suspended somewhere inbetween time and place. His delicate aesthetics draw us in but faced with his motifs a sense of unrest and bewilderment takes rise in the spectator. In the new works of Jasper Sebastian Stürup we are never quite sure of what we see. The characters depicted occur as in a state of metamorphosis somewhere inbetween being and not being where the condition for their momentary existence seems to be their physical interaction on the picture plane. It’s the interplay between Jasper Sebastian Stürup’s universe of transposed planes and dimensions and composite of characters which together create his particular artistic domain, a place where the spectator can never feel too reassured and where one is always challenged. Jasper Sebastian Stürup (b. 1969) graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1999, and has since 2007, been living in New York. A Journey Round My Skull shows a range of his newest works of drawing and watercolour. |
