For the first time in spring 2002 PRÜSS & OCHS GALLERY BERLIN presented in a group exhibition Kyungwoo Chun, the 1969 born artist who lives in Bremen. The between 1999 and 2000 originated series ‚Thirty minutes Dialogue' stood at that time in the centre of the exhibition. Now the photographer shows in the exhibition EIDOLON five since then created work groups.

Kyungwoo Chun was one of the real ‚new discoveries' in the UP & COMING section at ARCO Madrid 2003. Its sensational Performance ‚18 x 1 minute' was acquired by the Fundación Centro Ordónez / San Sebastian for its collection. With the mentioned performance by Kyungwoo Chun the new Centro Ordónez Fálcon de Fotografía will open in October. In the exhibition EIDOLON the documentation of the ARCO performance will be shown as well.

With the series EIDOLON, Kyungwoo Chun newly defines the three dimensionality of his work: until now the photographic ‚encounters' of the artist took place with living persons, now he turns to ‚lifeless objects'.

During an exposure time, which measured time periods of eighteen minutes to hours, a dialogue between the model and the Korean photographer took place. The artist is not interested in the person in fornt of him, rather he wanted to retain the aura of the person. With regard to EIDOLON, the artist talks about a reflection of himself in the object in front of him.

In the series EIDOLON, his perception of the reality, this time lifeless, human figures, is transformed into the emerging photo through a camera fixed to his own body. He photographed, like for his series ‚Thirty minutes Dialogue' with a medium format camera and a desensitized black-white-film. Kyungwoo Chun´s movements, his respiration, his thoughts and feelings, his way how he encounters the model determines the fascinating fuzzines that lets emerge a further dimension in his photographies.

To the exhibition a catalog KYUNGWOO CHUN I EIDOLON with texts from Enrique Ordónez and Jaana Prüss will be published.
