Lina Kruopytė, Season, 2013
Review March 14, 6 pm.
This Thursday, March 14, 6 pm, the Galleryís Review Room will introduce Lina Kruopytėís new video-performance Season (2013). Lina graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts with a Bachelorís Degree in photography and media in 2011 and went to study for Masterís Degree at the Kontsfack College of Arts in Stockholm. In her works she analyses the mechanisms of image formation and fashion. In her graduation work/exhibition co-authored by Agota Lukytė and titled we donít need justice, we donít need freedom, just someone to love (2011) she analysed the trends of contemporary art.
The new performance Season was inspired by advertising language. Samuel E. Nilsson, a young fashion professional, wearing a classic dark blue suit, gives the news of the upcoming fashion season. His narrative is a collection of phrases from various fashion media. The interesting point is that the 10 minute speech about fashion does not contain a single word about fabrics, patterns, cuts or lengths. Lina says that the most intriguing things in fashion industry are the aspect of language and the property of the advertising language to refer to non-existing phenomena, thus creating universally desired images.
