Lisa Jones takes ordinary objects and transforms them into extraordinary sculptures. She explores the ‘absent’ body and its relationship with the everyday. Recently she has been using medical imaging first hand in order to explore aspects of the body and incorporate these into her work. She also photographs unusual objects from the everyday domestic world and juxtaposes these with images from the Antipodean natural world or the human skeleton. Jones states, “I like Julia Kristeva’s notion of ‘the abject’ – the beautiful and the repulsive – that’s how I ended up working with conflicting aspects of human bodies.” | |||||
