Within the framework of the "Program New Presences" sponsored by the Consell de Mallorca, CCA ESPAI is pleased to present the new exhibition by Majorcan artist Marta Juan Martorell (Mallorca, 1980). The show will host the series of works made over the past two years, plus some works created specifically for this exhibition, as the wall painting based on her artist books ("Diari-Ideari").

The wide variety of techniques, materials and formats used, do nothing but show the wide range of technical handled by the artist while working. Based on the concept of palimpsest (manuscript whose surface retains traces of a previous writing) and using collage techniques, the artist juxtaposes on the surface of the work different photographs, drawings, paintings, etc. Creating this way a visual diary with fragments of locations, memories, trips or colours which resemble the common urban landscape in which city-walls become real palimpsests where modern graffiti, advertising posters, etc. are mixed.

Marta Juan Martorell graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona (2004) where she also received her PhD in Fine Arts (2006). "Mal d'Arxius" is her first solo exhibition in a commercial gallery, but her work has already participated in other national and international exhibitions. Among which: Becas Fundació Guasch Coranty at the Centre d'Art Santa Monica in Barcelona (2008); Scooping Video, shown in Tarragona and Berlin (2006); ytengolacertezadequemeestádiciendoalgo, SALADESTAR in Barcelona (2004); Mestizos, in Ses Voltes Palma de Mallorca (2004), among others.
