Mel Ramos, Navel Oranges, 2013
Digital Print, deluxe edition with book, 28 x 22 cm
we're starting the fall season at our Gallery in the Dorotheergasse 5, 1010 Vienna with
MEL RAMOS - Works on Paper and Editions
on Wednesday, August 28th at 7pm
including the book presentation of the new catalogue raisonné of original prints.
The American Pop-Art artist Mel Ramos appropriates images from the mass media and commercials, just as his artist colleagues Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol did. Ramos' 'Commericial Pin-ups', nude and perfectly beautiful, pose self-confidently on cigars or slices of cheese.
They lounge on candies or step out of candy bar wrappers and lean on Coca-Cola bottles. Ramos - born 1935 in Sacramento, California - exposes and parodies trivial commercial strategies. He is one of the last great living American Pop-Art artists.
