PRESS RELEASE
In his first solo exhibition in Europe, Miguel Mitlag (*1969, Buenos Aires) presents at Galerie koal a space-oriented/occupying installation, photographs and drawings. Mitlag's work begins with the reproduction of pre-existing spaces and environments that are altered in the artist's mind until they become a marred version of the real.
In "HOLIAY" - an intentionally mistaken transcription of the word "holiday" - Mitlag presents us, just as he did in his earlier productions of interiors, with a three-dimensional space of almost monumental appearance. The protagonists of this especially for the gallery developed piece, are a bag, a box and a carpet which differ in their scale (10:1) from the reality of these objects. "Alienation and mutation are two conditions I like very much", the artist notes, thus the dysfunctional sense that these objects have acquired is hardly surprising. A kind of "structure with possibilities" where the action did not take place - or maybe it did and we did not notice.
Duration of the exhibition 8 March to 2 April 2008
