The works of two new artists, Nikos Varytimiadis and Laura Rapti, are presented by Donopoulos International Fine Arts gallery from 16 May to 14 June at Mylos cultural compound. They are visual suggestions of intense symbolism and refer extensively to the concept of human entity.

Graduate of the School of Fine Arts at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Varytimiadis has already been discriminated by the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and Belle ARTE Lamia, and has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, as well as in the implementation of events, festivals and other artistic events. With the usage of traditional and new media his art is distinguished for its clarity and skilful execution. Various expressive modes are manipulated, yet not at the expense of thematic coherence. The intensity of lines and interference of dots and other small items in the colour field comprise a dense environment where the function of space expands to more than one level and human existence subjects to annotation by both its presence and absence.

Having also graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University just a year ago, Rapti won the first prize at the 5th Biennial of Crete and samples of her work have been displayed in group exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki. Her works depict fruits of nature that don't stick to their original function, but sometimes play games game with vision by resembling members and vital organs of the human body. They look like immaterial structures or x-rays representing an undefined critical introspection of vitality, unfitting to descriptive rules. The impression of non real form is enhanced by two-dimensional surface and a sense of emptiness within the limits of which the catalytic influence of space and time ceases to exist and the legitimate end of existence is not death but rebirth.
