Oskar Zieta – Blow Ups
stilwerk design gallery presented an exhibition focusing on the award-winning 'blow-up' products by the Polish designer Oskar Zieta. stilwerk limited edition design gallery in Hamburg presented a cross-section of works by process designer Oskar Zieta from 26 August to 22 October 2011. Originally an architect, Zieta has been among the shooting stars of the design scene since 2008 and created a sensation with his 'inflated' metal furniture. Within a short time, his designs have become part of numerous international museums and collections.
Polish designer Oskar Zieta has carved out a distinctive niche. The 36-year-old multi-talent has conducted research at the Chair for CAAD (Computer-aided architectural design) at the prestigious Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich since 2003 and is currently pursuing his doctorate there. After years of experimenting, he developed a unique production technology which enabled him to 'inflate' sheet metal. This revolutionary process, designed by Zieta in collaboration with architect Phillipp Dohmen, is known as FiDU (from the German for 'Free Internal Pressure Forming'). Zieta uses it to transform thin two-dimensional sheet steel into stable three-dimensional pieces of furniture and objects.
After his appearances at the annual Salone del Mobile in Milan, Oskar Zieta, who built up a successful family business on his idea, has now risen to international fame and acclaim and received numerous awards including the 2008 red dot Award, the 2008 DMY Award for Innovation in Production Processes, the 2009 German Design Council Prize, the 2009 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, the 2009 Swiss Design Award and the 2011 Audi Mentor Award. His designs can already be seen in locations including Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Zurich Design Museum and the Baden State Museum in Karlsruhe.
Now Zieta's work will be presented in Hamburg for the first time at stilwerk design gallery, in the company of works by successful international designers, architects and artists with which stilwerk has established a platform for contemporary products at the interface of art and design. The design gallery will present every aspect of Zieta's oeuvre, which will also be for sale there. This will include not only his collection of series productions –primarily the legendary PLOPP Family range of stools – but also Zieta Beta, experimental products at the prototype stage, and Zieta Limited, exclusive limited-edition designs in the finest-quality materials.
