Etchings - Pablo Picasso
About forty lithography prints, etchings, aquatints and linotypes created by Picasso over a period spanning four decades -from 1930 through to the sixties- (excluding the copperplate engraving Salome of 1905), as well as two pastel drawings are being exhibited at the first private viewing of Donopoulos International Fine Arts from the 8th December until 29th January 2008.
Subjects inspired by Greek mythology, bullfighting and female portraits are a few of the motifs being displayed in different techniques throughout the exhibition.
Of special interest is a rare series of lithography prints based on the same motif, where in the best way becomes manifest the working method of Picasso and the ways in which he addresses his subject. The artist himself gives great weight in recording the creative process, which is why he kept all alterations in printing. In respect he has stated: "…perhaps in this way one could understand the mental operations which give life to the artist's dreams…"
Picasso never stopped experimenting, discovering and reinventing the art of engraving. His boundless enthusiasm in combination with the absolute technical knowledge, guide him in creating an oeuvre which is characterised as the most important in 20th century engraving.
The exhibition is in corporation with the Gallery for Art by Picasso - Conzen/beck & Eggeling, Düsseldorf. The work exhibited originates from the collection of the artist's grand-daughter Marina Picasso and from the collection of F. Mourlot, in whose atelier Picasso printed the greater amount of his lithographic work.
The curation of the exhibition as well as the architectural design of the gallery space is by artist Apostolos Palavrakis.
