Pedro Calapez will be present at the opening.
In his first exhibition in Austria the Portuguese painter Pedro Calapez (born 1953) presents a range of new, very typical works: various single aluminium boards put together to compositions of extraordinary and dynamic colouring. Expansion, not concentration, is an apparent factor in the ouevre of the painter, who works in a range between painting and drawing, concreteness and abstraction. Calapez has been internationally present for many years and took part in several biennals: 1986 in Venice, 1987 and 1991 in Sao Paolo.
In Germany his works were last shown in 1999 in the exhibition "Tage der Dunkelheit und des Lichts" in which the Kunstmuseum Bonn unified new positions of emerging Portuguese artists.
