 Song Ling, Beauty and the beast 17, 2012 acrylic on canvas 140 x 110cm framed | | |
Since returning to the Australian art scene in 2005, Song Ling has produced big, bold, canvases filled with screen-dot images drawn from his Asian heritage. The works were making some strong statements about societal changes and cross-cultural exchange, but on another level, they were also colourful and charming. In his fourth exhibition at Niagara Galleries, that will change. The 16 new paintings in Beauty and the Beast reveal a darker side. Black and white faces hidden beneath garish masks question our expectations of beauty and glamour and we are forced to come face to face with the duality of human nature.
Private appointments are now available to preview the exhibition prior to the opening. Please contact the gallery to arrange a time or to request a list of works. |
