TAWATCHAI PUNTUSAWASDI: The Beauty of Distance
September 27th - October 20th, 2007
This September, Valentine Willie Fine Art will present a solo exhibition by upcoming Thai sculptor Tawatchai Puntusawasdi. This will be the first time showing of Tawatchai's work in Malaysia. Since his debut solo show in 1996, the 34-year-old College of Fine Arts instructor has been exploring the relationships between two and three-dimensional objects and visual perception. The artist will be here in Kuala Lumpur to present and install his first Malaysian solo exhibition, which involves a series of sculptures and site-specific installations together with a series of slate drawings of dwellings and Thai icons. He will also be presenting a series of work entitled "Flat Perception", which explores how perspective changes when ideas are transferred from the drawing board to models. Tawatchai has exhibited at the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003 as well as at the Sydney Biennale 2006.
