Olaf Breuning, King, 2000
Having nearly reached its tenth-year anniversary Arndt & Partner are excited to announce what is intended to become one in several expansive projects:
The opening of a temporary project space during the months of May and June 2003 in Chicago. Invited by Vedanta Gallery to take over a space of 4000 sq. ft. on the first floor exhibition space of the building at 835 West Washington Blvd, we shall exhibit a representative selection of our gallery programme.
The underlying motivation behind this project is to be able to present the works in a way that transcends the usual spatial constraints and time frames of art fairs.
Longer exposure and a generous presentation will offer the chance to introduce the artistic positions in more detail.
Founded in 1994, Arndt & Partner has opened its gallery space at a time, when Berlin was just emerging as what is now one of the most vital locations for contemporary artistic production in Europe. Since then Arndt & Partner has become a substantial part of the Berlin contemporary art scene, focusing on the presentation of international contemporary art.
In Chicago, Arndt & Partner will focus on the exhibition of emerging artistic positions, emphasising the Berlin-based artists, such as Mathilde ter Heijne, Yannick Demmerle or Anton Henning, whose work has so far only occasionally been presented in the US. This focus shall be complimented by selected works of established artists whose work find its origin in the history of Berlin like The Detachment series of Sophie Calle (1996) or the pictures taken at Berlin-Wannsee or Wolfsburg by Massimo Vitali (both 2001). The exhibition is rounded off by artists of high international acclaim, such as Keith Tyson and Claude Lévêque, who are yet without a US representation as well as other selected positions from the programme of the gallery.
The exhibition will run concurrently with the international art fair Art Chicago 2003 (May 9 – May 12, 2003) and with Vedanta Gallery's first solo exhibition of photographs by Yannick Demmerle, who is exclusively represented by Arndt & Partner.
