Andri Köfer was trained as a stone sculptor, Robert Hess graduated as a graphic designer. They met each other in 1992, when together with others they founded in Wetzikon a studio community called Kunstnovember. They became friends and since 2000, they have labelled their creative cooperation under the authorship of the artist couple köfer | hess. Right from the beginning, their artistic production was focused on the interface of art, space and image; at the same time, their performative and sculptural interventions have always been influenced strongly by given or found contexts and situations.
The huge installation in the premises of Kunsthalle Winterthur is also embedded into a wider context: the large-scale residential landscape they have been working on for four weeks will after the show be shipped to a small island in the Lake of Zurich called Lützelau; there it will be inhabited by Andri Köfer and his partner Daniela Villiger during the summer months. Besides some elementary infrastructure such as a kitchen and bedroom, the building will also house the showcase of the Minimuseum Viganò. Inside, art collector Peter Bosshard will install a small but ever so delicate show with exhibits of his vast collection based at the Kunst(Zeug)Haus in Rapperswil.
