The exhibition promotes the view that the encounter and intersection of cultures forms the necessary condition for both the creation, as well as the reception of contemporary art.

On the level of production, artists of our time, according to a predominant tendency of contemporary art, draw upon religious philosophic, social, political et al. elements from diverse cultures, which are considered coequal and are recognized to share a common anthropological background.

Even when the artists are inspired by local and regional cultures, the produced artistic works address an audience that has gone beyond ethnic and local boundaries.

In the exhibition, which is developed on three levels of the new wing of the Athens Concert Hall (A1, 0, Foyer), 17 internationally acknowledged artists participate : Miroslaw Balka, Costas Varotsos, Katharina Fritsch, Kendell Geers, Mona Hatoum, Gary Hill, Emily Jacir, Jannis Kounellis, Wolfang Laib, Shirin Neshat, Walid Ra’ad and The Atlas Group, Kim Sooja, Danae Stratou, Do-Ho Suh, Costas Tsoclis, Bill Viola and George Hadjimichalis.
The artists, of diverse cultural backgrounds, live mostly in great metropolitan centres (New York, London, Berlin etc) and work towards this direction.

The works, which were commissioned by EMST especially for the exhibition, were bought by the Cultural Olympiad (OPEP S.A.), with the purpose to become part of the permanent collections of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) and thus constitute a significant international nucleus.
