For a long time, Ulf Puderís extraordinary images of imaginary architectural worlds and inhabited landscapes were rendered in a signature palette of matte colours and murky shades. Recently, decidedly brighter and more radiant hues complement this colour scheme. Puderís landscapes exude an atmosphere of desolation and longing. The houses appear inhabited and abandoned at the same time, evoking a deserted ghost town feel. There is a powerful interplay between the pervading mood, which is surreal and sometimes gloomy, and the utopian, even paradisal aspects that have become increasingly dominant within Puderís visual compositions. And this reveals him as an optimist, who seeks to develop new spaces and perspectives based on the fundamental qualities and values of tradition.
