A arte Studio Invernizzi gallery presented on Tuesday 28 November 2006, a solo exhibition of Ulrich Rückriem in which works realized in specific connection with the space of the gallery are on display.
For this exhibition Ulrich Rückriem realized 6 new sculptures that, interacting with the columns of the exhibition space, complement each other and become one thing with the environment.
From the 8 columns, the artist was able to create 92 drawings on acetate paper that show the possibilities of displacing the 8 columns on a chessboard composed by 8 squares each side. No matter how the columns are moved - horizontally, vertically, or sideways - they won't ever meet, but will remain isolated in the space.
Moreover, the artist presents a graphite wall drawing, specially realized for the occasion, which is taken from one of the possible drawing variations.
Finally, he creates a further sculpture - a synthesis of the whole exhibition - by realizing a second series of drawings on acetate paper with the 92 displacement possibilities of the 8 columns which, kept in a glass box, create an "unicum" between projecting, drawing and sculpting.
On the occasion of the exhibition a catalogue displaying the exhibition, containing a poem by Carlo Invernizzi and bio-bibliographical notes, has been published.
Ulrich Rückriem is born in Düsseldorf in 1938.
In 1964 his first solo exhibition takes place at the Domgalerie in Cologne and in 1969 he exhibits at the Konrad Fischer Galerie in Düsseldorf.
During the 70's several Museums, like the Museum Haus Lange in Krefeld, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, the Kunsthalle Tübingen, the Städtische Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach, the Frankfurter Kunstverein, the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford and the Kunstmuseum Bonn, dedicate exhibitions to him.
During the 80's and the 90's Ulrich Rückriem realizes big exhibitions in important Public Spaces, among them the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Westfalisches Landesmuseum in Münster, the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, the Palacio de Cristal at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus of Munchen and the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam.
In 2004 the New National Gallery of Berlin and the Stiftung Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum of Duisburg dedicate a solo exhibition to him.
