UNTITLED
Opening SATURDAY 7th JULY 2007 AT 9 PM
The exhibition is running from the 8th of July until the 30th of September 2007
On the occasion of 52nd International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia, Artericambi Gallery presents Untitled, a selection of works by:
STEVEN PIPPIN, ANDREA GALVANI, CARLES CONGOST, GIOVANNI MORBIN, DIDIER RITTENER, FABIO SANDRI
"Untitled" is a group exhibition developing and existing on formal, aesthetic and conceptual rebounds between the exhibited works. It's a music with no score, freely playing like different voices harmonizing in a choir. If each artist creates a world, the meaning of an exhibition lies in the fact that makes these worlds meet without fencing them into a granted intent.
The chosen artists have been working with Artericambi for a long time. Their research follows independent and original developments, nevertheless we can't deny that the identity of an art gallery develops, each time, through the dynamics emerging from inner energies and synergies leading the expansion of this small universe to a recognizable direction. Crossing and suspending on itself, the gallery shows its own image in a combination of plural tensions like an expression appearing on a face which suddenly discloses the persistence of a unique personality.
Steven Pippin (Redhill, GB, 1960 - Lives and works in London)
Finalist at Turner prize in 1999, he has exhibited his works at the most important international galleries such as Tate Modern in London and MOMA in New York. He's become famous for his washing machines turned into cameras now collected at MOMA. The artist is now realizing sculptures and installations inspired by astronomical models and physical laws governing the universe. They are pieces of high conceptual meaning and engineering design , aiming at combining art, science and technology.
Andrea Galvani (Verona 1973 - lives and works in Milan and Bologna)
He's been pondering on the conceptual nature of images for some years: His favourite medium is photography even if he often uses other languages such as videos, drawings and wall painting. His work has joined important collections. Among his many one-man exhibitions in Italy and abroad, the latest one has taken place in Losanna at Circuit and in Monfalcone at the Civic Gallery. He also participated in Hydra Show (island of Hydra in Greece) and "Visions of paradise" at the Swiss Institute of Culture in Rome.
Carles Congost (Olot, ES, 1970 - lives and works in Barcelona)
One of the most important representatives of young Spanish art, he has participated in important international exhibitions such as PS1 in New York in 2003, IMMA in Dublin in 2006 and MUSAC in Leon in 2007. He uses television language and methodology in his works: talk shows, soap operas, MTV and psycho-thrillers. He twists their meanings through paradox using a subtle and brilliant irony which doesn't spare the art system itself
Giovanni Morbin (Vicenza, 1956 - Lives and works in Cornedo Vicentino)
Along with behavioural art work , he is interested in building everyday use objects giving them the value of tools. He was co-author and subscriber of the poetic declaration EXPRESSIVE ETHICS of the 8th of may 1994. In the same year he invented the "Strumento a perdifiato" (pun literally meaning " lose your breath") device to communicate to oneself: his performances are called "Hybridations": actions carried out with an animal, vegetable or mineral partner. Since 2002 he's been involved in the project "Non sto piu' nella pelle" (pun literally meaning "I get out of my own skin") that is portraits made to order drawn using the customer's own blood. His latest work inquires into the atomic links of the artistic matter and archetypal images through the atomizing of objects.
Didier Rittener (Losanna nel 1969 - Lives and works in Lausanne - CH)
He's taken part to important exhibitions such as "Le Credac" centre d'art in Ivry and group shows at the Cantonal Museum of Modern Art in Lugano and MAMbA in Buenos Aires. His iconographical repertory is formed by Renaissance art, Minimal art and Islamic art elements and other details taken from imaginary rock, advertising and industrial design. The form is purged of its useless components and becomes a mere outline in a constant gauging between work and referent.
Fabio Sandri (1964 Valdagno VI - Lives and works in Castelgomberto, VI)
His research is centered on experimenting the limits of photographic technique. Through photograms he lets life deposit on sensitive paper in almost abstract perceptible traces, at the same time dense with time. He disdains the creation of an image through a decisive shot, and he lets reality leave its own natural print and turn into image. Among his most important exhibitions we mention 1:1 at Kettled Yard, Cambridge, n-e Artoteca, Milan, - Fotosensibilità, Neon, Campobase, Bologna - Luoghi, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa Venezia. |
