Vlad Yurashko was born 1970 in Poltava, Ukrania. He lives and works in Moscow and Poltava.

In his impressive new cycle about the Soviet Army, which he developed in the last two years, he processes the experiences he made twenty years ago during his military service in the Soviet Union (1989-1991). Despite the fact that between now and the time at the army 20 years have passed, he firstly is able to articulate his experiences, lesions and reprisals.

The canvases show soldiers in uniforms, landscapes and interiors. Initially harmless motives, as the New Year's decorations in the Lenin Hall or the trays with lunch-meals in the refectory oppose scenes in which Vlad Yurashko points unconcealed violence among comrades. In individual paintings he joins different motives on one canvas, comparable to a photo album or a pictured story.

In his first year of military service, Vlad Yurashko was a victim who got mishandled and humiliated. In his second year he became a culprit himself which today still struggles him.
