This fall, Magasin 3 will be bringing together works by Katharina Grosse, Sol LeWitt and Walter De Maria, all of whom have had major exhibitions at the museum since its inception in 1987. Grosse’s expressive and abstract painting will meet works by the masters of minimalism and conceptual art. The exhibition traces a particular trajectory through art history, whilst it actively relates to the history of Magasin 3. Sol LeWitt (1928-2007, USA) exhibited his first wall drawing in 1968, introducing an approach that would change the way we understand art today. Around the same time, Walter De Maria (1935-2013, USA) showed the first version of his work consisting of stainless steel rods, which led to a series of powerful, often monumental installations. Ten years ago, Katharina Grosse (b. 1961, Germany), painted directly onto the walls, ceilings and floors of Magasin 3, transforming the exhibition space into a painting that visitors could enter and move around in. For the fall exhibition, she is working on an installation that references her site-specific painting from 2004. Grosse will also be creating a new and monumental outdoor installation specifically for Magasin 3.
