For his second solo exhibition at annex14, Yves Mettler (*1976) has produced new works which he groups under the heading “Konkrete Ränder der Heimlichkeit”. If we link this title with the artist’s long-term preoccupation with urban space, we can assume that here too, it is all about locating and making conscious hidden connections.
Yves Mettler’s approach is similar to a kind of field study. He registers situations and changes, observes the interplay between existing material or symbolic structures and actions that take place in and with them. He is interested in the large and small gestures that split urban space into countless spaces, be that an old armchair put out on the street by its owner.
This is where the exhibition at annex14 begins – with such scenarios ented in honeycomb-like display cases. With the help of cloud images and spoken aphorisms the artist creates a situation that surveys the phenomenon of the city from different atmospheric, documentary and theoretical perspectives. Thinking models emerge that explore and reflect the structures of a city in combination with its inhabitants and their privately, politically or economically motivated actions.
