| Banksy does Art Below... (19.3.2010) | ||||

Art Below were in the papers this week when Banksy decided to contribute an exclusive piece of his work 'Forgive us our trespassing' to their ever increasing public gallery of poster art in the London Underground. The piece was originally refused by the censorship board as it features a halo dripping with paint and could therefore act as an incentive towards grafitti artists, So the poster went up without the "incriminating halo" Within 2 days of it's installation at London Bridge Station the halo miraculously appeared in it's rightful place above the boy's head. It remains a mystery as to who the "saint maker" is but there is a growing suspicion that it is Banksy himself. The work was originally designed as a free poster to go with a promotional pack of flyers produced by the non traditional marketing agency Don't Panic Media, who work with Art Below to push forward "underground art" in new and different ways. 'We are very proud to exhibit the work of who we consider to be the greatest living artist in the world today and most certainly the greatest to have ever exhibited with Art Below" Says Benjamin Moore, creative director of Art Below. Moore had contacted Banksy when Art Below first began in 2006 and asked him if he might be interested in featuring some work in the tube. Banksy wasn't so keen as he implied there were too many rules and regulations. It would appear that a solution to the problem has now been discovered, or maybe the appirition of the halo is truly a miracle. The message of forgiveness in the title of the work should still remain clear to either some or all of the people involved including possibly Banksy himself, Transport for London, Dont Panic and Art Below.... "Forgive Us Our Trespassing". | |||
