|ARTE LISBOA - Contemporary Art Fair (19.9.2006)|
||ARTE LISBOA started in 1999 as an initiative of APGA – Portuguese Association of Art Galleries, who organized two editions in conjunction with AIP – Industrial Portuguese Association. In 2001 the fair starts being organized exclusively by AIP/FIL – International Fair of Lisbon. |
Coinciding with the change of management of FIL and of the fair, many actions were put into action such as the creation of three committees: Honour Committee presided by The President of the Republic; Advisory Committee incorporating Adiac – Association for International Diffusion of Contemporary Art, APGA – Portuguese Association of Art Galleries, ATL – Tourism Association of Lisbon, CML – Metropolitan Chamber of Lisbon and the Ministry of Culture through IA – Arts Institute; and the Selection Committee incorporating APGA and the following art galleries: 111, Monumental, Módulo, Maria Llanos and Siboney.
58 galleries participated, 41 of them being Portuguese, 13 Spanish, 2 German, 1 Brazilian and 1 Russian.
For the first time a library was present (Almedina). Arte Kids was created. Four books were lounged: by Jorge Martins - BPI initiative, by Miguel Palma - ADIAC initiative, by José Bechara – initiative of Carlos Carvalho Contemporary Art and by Carlos Barão – initiative of Pedro Serrenho Gallery. A program of visits for national and international collectors and invited journalists was structured. In the auditorium of Pavilion 4 three round-tables were organized, as well as a presentation of the project “Divergentes” and the presentation of the catalogue of the Architect Aires Mateus´s exhibit being held at the CCB.
A breeze of optimism and expectation is surrounding the preparation of the 6th edition of ARTE LISBOA, which will be held from 8-13 November at FIL – Feira Internacional de Lisboa – Pavilion 4 - Parque das Nações.
This year ARTE LISBOA counts 66 chosen galleries. The candidates include 47 Portuguese galleries and 19 foreign ones from Spain, Germany, Brazil, Hungary, Mexico and Cuba.
ARTE LISBOA's main objective in the next edition is to promote the maximum interest and participation of trade visitors and general public, so that they can discover within the contemporary art fair, and the related activities scheduled for the event, an excellent opportunity to be in contact with the best of what the contemporary artistic panorama has to offer. During 6 days, the fair will welcome a buying and interested pubic, distributed between private and institutional visitors, hence emerging as a privileged commercial platform.
FIL/AIP, the organizing entity, offers excellent organization, logistic conditions, services and premises of a high quality exhibition. All this at Parque das Nações. A magnificent location of high architectonic standards, where the Expo'98 took place.
For art dealers and gallery owners, the advantages of participating in ARTE LISBOA, mainly taking into account the excellent results registered in the previous 5th edition, are clear, as it will offer the possibility to leverage their activity in an event that has been building its quality and notoriety among artists, collectors, critics, agents from the artistic panorama, and the buying public interested in the national and international contemporary art.
