BAK, basis voor actuele kunst is pleased to announce the 1st FORMER WEST Congress, which takes place in Utrecht from 5 to 7 November 2009. The Congress gathers some of the most influential curators, artists, theorists, and thinkers of the past two decades from the field of art and is the first major public program of the long-term international research, education, publishing, and exhibition project FORMER WEST (2008-2013). Due to overwhelming interest and limited seating capacity, the Congress is now fully booked and we regret that registration at this stage is no longer possible. However, the new FORMER WEST website hosts a live streaming of the Congress at www.formerwest.org. Please visit the website for a detailed program. On 8 November from 16.00-19.00 hrs a finissage takes place at the conclusion of the FORMER WEST research exhibition Surplus Value by Mona Va(ta(manu and Florin Tudor (currently on view at BAK).
