Art|41|Basel - Book Launch Bettina Pousttchi: Echo Berlin at Art|Salon
  Sunday, June 20 | 2 - 2.30 p.m. | Book Launch | Bettina Pousttchi: Echo Berlin

Bettina Pousttchi, Artist, Berlin; Dieter Roelstraete, Curator and Author, MUHKA Antwerpen and Esther Ruelfs, Curator and Author, Museum der Moderne Salzburg

Bettina Pousttchi arranged photographs of the recently demolished Palast der Republik in such a way that the 970 individual posters applied to the exterior walls of the Temporäre Kunsthalle Berlin create the impression of a visual echo of that former prestigious building of the GDR. Editing the images and adding fictive elements result in additional perplexing aspects.

Echo reflects on the individual's ability to recall and the suggestive role that the medium of photography plays in memory. As an allegedly simulated historical work of architecture, the installation thus also alludes to the changes in the cityscape immediately surrounding Berlin's Schlossplatz.

The catalogue is published by Buchhandlung Walther König. It includes texts by Diedrich Diederichsen, Tom McCarthy, Markus Miessen, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Angela Rosenberg, and Esther Ruelfs.
