Sibylle Bergemann . Polaroids
The present moment is fleeting, fragile, intimate, and difficult to hold on to. The instant and eternity-nowhere are they so close together as in the Polaroid, the instant photo that is ephemeral precisely because it fades with time. Sibylle Bergemann (1941-2010) used this medium to create dreamlike and sensitive documentary works that take a stand against forgetfulness. Multilayered as they are, these photographs are eluding temporal or spatial classification. C/O Berlin presents 140 Polaroids, offering a distinctive overview of the work of one of the most important female photographers in Germany. The exhibition is sponsored by TOTAL Deutschland and supported by Deutschen Bahn, Dinamix, tip Berlin and die tageszeitung.

Gregory Crewdson . In a Lonely Place
Emptiness, loneliness, stasis, paranoia-Gregory Crewdson's elaborately staged and enigmatic photographs turn the American dream inside out, enacting a fine line between normality and horror. Here, the uncanny is neither new nor strange, but familiar-as close as next door. Crewdson (born in New York, in 1962) carries on the tradition of staged photography and is also strongly influenced by the visual cosmos of the Hollywood film. C/O Berlin will be presenting a variety of 70 photographs of a surreal, supernatural suggestive power from the series Fireflies (1996), Beneath the Roses (2003-2008), and Sanctuary (2010). The exhibition is supported by C/O's e.V., Deutschen Bahn, The Mandala Hotel, sleek, tip berlin and die tageszeitung

C/O Berlin Book Days
Even in the digital age, the book remains an ideal medium for representing the fascination of photography in all its rich variety. Today more than ever, the selection of formats, the haptic qualities of the paper, the arrangement of pictures, and the carefully designed layout make these carriers of analog data-whether mass-produced volumes or individual collector's items-objects of desire. Thanks to technological advances that have made book production easier, more and more artists and cultural entrepreneurs are publishing their own projects as photo books.

Beginning with the success of the first Talents series catalogs, C/O Berlin has been producing its own publications to accompany exhibitions since 2009. The C/O Berlin Photo Book Days will serve as a platform to present the most recent works by both long-established and up-and-coming publishing houses and artists, and to thereby stimulate exchange and discussion. The participating publishers, magazines and artists are 1/2 Zines, Album - Magazin für Fotografie, 25 Books / Peperoni Books, Johanna Diehl, do you read me?!, ex pose, Kehrer Verlag, Kominek, HatjeCantz Verlag, Jung & Wenig, Bücher & Hefte, Ein Magazine über Orte, Peeping Tom, Post Editions, Anne Schwalbe, Constant Dullaart, Florian Göttke, European Photography, Piclet, Foam Magazine, Joachim Schmid, ABC, Camera Austria and Vice Versa.

The program includes a lecture by Gregory Crewdson, book signings, an open-air concert, cinema, BBQ, and an outdoor bar. With the inauguration of the Photo Book Days event, C/O Berlin is celebrating its traditional summer festival as well as its 11th anniversary. The Berlin Music Week supports the C/O Berlin Book Days.
