António Prates Gallery was created in 1996 and is dedicated to contemporary art. Now in a new location on Rua Alexandre Herculano, at the centre of Lisbon. It presents exhibitions by young and/or well renowned artists both national and international. It publishes bilingual and fully illustrated colour catalogues for all its exhibitions.
Throughout its existence to date the gallery has held a minimum of 4 solo exhibitions per year, counting 49 solo exhibitions since 1996, 2 of which were held with the collaboration of the Badajoz Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporaneo (MEIAC) - with a joint edition book-catalogue, one other exhibition in collaboration with the Madrid MNCARS (Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia), and yet another in collaboration with the Cascais (Portugal) D. Luis I Foundation. Also, 3 joint solo exhibitions were held (presenting two artists simultaneously) and14 group shows, among which was "Bioart - a New Kind of Art".
The Gallery has also participated in several art fairs, namely: the Arte Lisboa Contemporary Art Fair in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 , 2004, 2005 and 2006, in ARCO Madrid in 1998, in Flash Art Bologna in 2005 and in the 1st Edition of ArtMadrid, in 2006.
Opening hours to the public are from Monday to Friday, from 11h00 to 20h00, and Saturdays from 15h30 to 20h00, and admission is free to the general public. |
