Ottmar Hörl
Ottmar Hörl

Dear Friends of Galerie Bode,

The recent sculpture of Ottmar Hörl appreciates Luther's posting of his thesis and is a reminiscent of the date of foundation of the protestant Christian at 31st october 1517. Martin Luther (1483-1530) stands as reformer for the separation of church and state. He preached the peaceful freedom of rationality, conscience and religion. This is a current topic until today: "In my opinion Martin Luther is the reformer, who rediscovered the coherence of freedom and responsibility." says Ottmar Hörl, the internationally known conceptual artist and president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. Focusing his installation in Wittenberg he continues: "It must not be forgotten that Luther and his writings avail themself of the establishing letterpress."

Johann Gottfried Schadow's Luther-Memorial in Wittenberg was dismantled for restoration and was replaced from 14th august until 12th september 2010 with a temporary installation including 800 Luther messengers of Ottmar Hörl.
